A gift to our Chinese Mom
Mary Gee – Jun 21, 1931 to Jan 5, 2024

A 15 minute summary does not convey the complexity of life over 92 years
92 years takes a book or a blog to really convey the depth of her life.
Meeting people where they are and honoring the path they traveled
Most every generation doesn’t think their parents are smart. For generations of Chinese Americans, try meeting people where they are, and the path they traveled. Discord arises from expecting others to be who you want them to be, and not taking the time to honor who they deeply are.
This blog is to write down memories of Mom
- Uncle John said “Write. Write every day if you can.”
- All 4 of us kids have memories of Mom. Richard and I have the furthest back memories and experiences, which I am focused on writing about.
- Our Mom was very human. In this blog, I will attempt to explore events that illustrate her strength and courage, as a Chinese Mom, born during the Chinese Exclusion Act. and the Jim Crow Laws.

Rough Draft 1
- I’m writing this very rough draft
- Richard and Kim plan to refine it and summarize the highlights.
- Contact us regarding changes.
- In the beginning, there was Mom
Our Mom had emotions, which she hid very well, as a means of survival.
